Rewiring my Jeep, day 2
Day 2 felt less productive than the first day. I had to start by dropping the gas tank, which was more of a pain than I remembered (and I remember it being a real pain). The gas took a good while to siphon out. Then the tank didn’t want to lower, but my new floor jack helped a lot. I couldn’t get some of the hoses free for the life of me, and damaged one, so I just cut them. Cheap enough to replace.
Once the gas tank was down I was able to remove the remaining section of cabling - all wiring from my jeep was now 100% removed. I also used a multi-meter and validated that my fuel sending unit does work, so no need to replace it (I’d put a new one in with the new tank, about 3 years ago).
I got the new fuse box installed, mounted a few of the gauges for a test fit. The speedometer didn’t want to fit in the opening, I think due to my dash being slightly deformed around it from when the radio cutout was done, so I’ll need to sort that out.
I’ve decided to replace my Ignition Control Module, and the pigtail off of my distributor, due to the extreme corrosion on them. Ordered replacements for those.
I’ll take a few days to plan out the wiring, including crimping connectors to simplify things where it makes sense to, before I start tackling the interior wiring.
